About Lion in the Sun

Lion in the Sun was founded by Cristina and Paul Sanders and has been making sun protection swimwear for babies, children, youths and their parents since 1999.

We have offices in Guildford, United Kingdom; and Hawkes Bay in New Zealand. Photography and product testing is mostly done in the harsh UV light of New Zealand where the lack of ozone makes good sun protection for local children essential.

We expand our collection every season by introducing new colours and styles of sun protective swimwear, all in coordinated fabrics that can mix and match across the existing range of sun wear so customers can add to their summer beach wardrobe.

The purpose of Lion in the Sun is to manufacture great quality, fashionable sun protection swimwear with a UPF50+ and distribute the swimwear to the world market.

"We have three children of our own and we know how important it is to produce sun protection swimwear that fits well and looks good. We also know how particular kids can be about their swimwear! It's especially important to get a good look with UV swimwear, where the purpose is to provide a sun protective barrier, it is essential that children are happy with the designs we produce."

Our Customers

We have supplied our sun protective swimwear to thousands of on-line customers. Many of our customers come to us from word-of-mouth recommendations and they must be very happy with Lion in the Sun swimsuits because so many of them come back again and again as their children grow up. See our customers' comments for examples of what they say.

Own Designs

We commission our own unique range of designer fabric prints: 'Denim Tattoo', 'Silver Hook', 'Graffiti', 'Nerine', 'Eden', "Island' and the 'Posy' collection along with a collection of stripes and gorgeous bolds for a distinctive designer look.

The range has been designed so that wearers can easily coordinate all items across the range of beach wear; sun hats to match and contrast with rash shirts and matching girls and boys board shorts team up with swim tops and swimshirts. There are bikinis and tankinis as separates for the girls that coordinate with a sun jacket or sun protective rash shirt.

Competitive Pricing

Because Lion in the Sun creates its own swimwear designs and prints and organises its own manufacturing, we can offer very competitive prices for great quality.

Fast Delivery

Lion in the Sun prides itself on providing excellent customer service. We endeavour to despatch orders on the day we receive them or on the next business day from stock that we hold all year round.

We work really hard to ensure our customers are pleased with their purchases from us. Any problems - for example, if you need a different size or you want to choose another colour - we deal with immediately and we are very happy to replace or refund unworn items within one month of purchase.

Care Guide

CARE GUIDE:

Your Lion in the Sun UV protective swimwear will protect you against the damaging effects of the sun; even in extreme sunlight conditions. However, please be aware that all lycra-based fabrics will fade in bright sunlight, and a mellowing of the colour of Lion in the Sun swimwear is to be expected.

To ensure your swimwear retains its sun protective properties, it is essential to treat this garment with care.

ALWAYS rinse the swimwear in cool, fresh water after swimming, and dry away from direct sunlight.
NEVER wrap wet swimwear in a towel. Any chemicals from the water will react with the fabric, especially if left in a hot place (back window of a car, for example) causing the lycra to deteriorate; the colour from the suits may bleed and stain.
AVOID using strong washing detergents or fabric conditioner. Rise after wear and hand wash when necessary with a mild soap.
AVOID contact with chemical agents. This includes sun creams and after sun products. The suit will protect your skin from the sun. Wearing cream under the suit will force the chemicals from the sun cream into the fabric and cause the lycra to deteriorate, thus reducing the effectiveness of the sun protection. However, you should always wear sun cream on exposed skin not covered by your Lion in the Sun garment.

Very fine sand can occasionally become trapped in the fabric. Wait until the suit is absolutely day and flick sand out with fingernail.

Lion in the Sun is happy to guarantee our UV protective swimwear for six months providing these care instructions are followed. However, we regret that we cannot refund or exchange any garment that is damaged because these instructions have not been followed.
